RuneScape received a new addition to its Quest log

The long-running MMORPG RuneScape just received a new addition to its Quest log. Titled Desperate Measures, the new quest is a direct sequel to last year’s Desperate Times. It was first revealed at RuneFest 2019 and further details were provided in an official developer stream a couple of days ago. Now you can go and check it out yourself.

As described in-game, Desperate Measures is only an intermediate difficulty quest. Despite this, it’s listed as “Very Long,” making it one of the lengthiest quests in RuneScape 3. In fact, there are currently only 11 other quests listed with a length that long. Given that RuneScape has a staggering 226 quests in total, it’s clear developer Jagex has put a lot of work into it.

Available to all RuneScape members, Desperate Measures continues the exploration of Anachronia, a long-forgotten primordial landmass with ferocious inhabitants. Players will team up with RuneScape’s best known heroes to track troubled dragonkin Kerapac and the powerful Needle artefact, utilising their Archaeology and Combat skills to uncover secrets along the way. Adventurers looking to follow the storyline over future updates require just two skills, Archaeology and Agility, to be level 50 or above (with suggested Combat stats of 75) along with the completion of the prequel quest Desperate Times. Those that succeed will secure a selection of rewards, including Thok’s Stick (a cosmetic weapon override), XP Lamps, and a Cosmic Focus which makes it easier for players to efficiently uncover artefacts. There’s also a brand new collector to find who can help upgrade the Cosmic Focus even further.

RuneScape Mobile has been so successful in accelerating membership  on all platforms that designing content for mobile is at the forefront of the developers' minds. The addition of player-owned farms last year is one example of this, as they were "designed to be played on the loo," Osborne said. Something similar can be seen with OSRS, the Java version of the game that recently got a mobile port of its own. Content like Old School RuneScape's 80-player Nightmare of Ashihama raid is still being created.
